Empire and Jedi

The Empire Strikes Back:
-R2 is known to make mistakes from time to time.
-Yoda is a Jedi master who instructed Obi-wan
-Yoda lives on the Dagobah system
-fallen Jedi come back as ghosts
-Kenobi is still being called Ben
-Vader already knows Luke's last name is Skywalker. (He should know he's his son.)
-There are no cities or technology on Dagobah
-droids can "talk" to ships
-despite having the same last name, Vader cannot make the connection between Luke and himself.
-Anakin was a powerful Jedi, according to Yoda
-there was much anger in Anakin
-Obi-wan was similar in behavior to Luke when Yoda first trained him.
-Yoda has trained Jedi for 800 years.
-a Jedi must have the deepest commitment, and a serious mind
-a Jedi does not crave adventure or excitement
-Luke is considered "too old" to begin training by Yoda; Luke is 22 years old
-"A Jedi's strength flows from the force, but beware of the dark side. Anger, fear, aggression; the dark side of the force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Obi-wan's apprentice.
-"A Jedi uses the force for knowledge and defense, never attack."
-No ship as small as the Millennium Falcon has a cloaking device.
-Users of the force can see the past and future with enough meditation
-Obi-wan does not want to lose Luke to the emperor "The way he lost Vader"
-Vader chose "the quick and easy path"
-Obi-wan believes that Luke is their last hope, Yoda thinks otherwise ( Does Obi-wan not know Leia is also the offspring of Vader?)
-droids can feel (C-3PO expresses pain upon hitting his head against the Falcon)
-Darth Vader is Anakin Skywalker

Return of the Jedi:
-Droids feel paid (Gonk droid in Jabba's palace)
-Jabba is educated about the Jedi and their abilities on some level
-Jabba is not affected by Jedi mind tricks
-"Strong I am with the force, but not that strong." Yoda infers that a being powerful enough with the force would be able to cheat death.
-"Do not underestimate the power of the emperor, or suffer your father's fate, you will."
-When Obi-wan first knew Anakin, Anakin was already a great pilot, and was amazed by how strong the force was with him.
-Kenobi took it upon himself to train Anakin as a Jedi.
-"I thought that I could instruct him just as we'll as Yoda. I was wrong."
- "He's more machine now than man, twisted and evil."
-"To protect you both from the emperor, you were hidden from your father when you were born. The emperor knew as i did, if Anakin were to have any offspring, they would be a threat to him. That is the reason your sister remains safely anonymous."
-Obi-wan knows Leia is Luke's sister
-The emperor uses Vader and doesn't care much for him.
-Leia's real mother died when Leia was very young.
-"She was very beautiful. Kind, but sad."
-Luke has no memory of his mother.
-Vader refers to Kenobi as "Obi-wan"
-The emperor refers to a lightsaber as "a Jedi weapon", his words sound almost condescending towards the weapons.

Now that I've finished taking notes from the three films, I can use these as reference for writing the prequels. As for the prequels themselves, I have a basic outline for how the first half of the Phantom Menace will play out.

Having Consistency

One major issue with the prequels is how much it doesn't match up with the original trilogy. To fix this, I've decided to watch the original films and take note of anything that may hold significance in rewriting the prequels. I just finished A New Hope, and here's what I got:

-C-3PO doesn't know the princess, but knows OF her just enough to identify her.
-Darth Vader and Leia have a history but do not know they are related.
-3PO does not know/recognize Tatooine.
-Leia knows Kenobi as "Obi-wan Kenobi"
-3PO and R2 belong to Captain Antilles
-Luke only knows Kenobi as "Ben Kenobi"
-Owen and Beru know Kenobi as both "Ben" and "Obi-wan"
-Owen claims "Obi-wan" "died" about the same time as Anakin
-Owen and Beru don't seem to know what really happened to Anakin, they probably believe he died.
-3PO doesn't know Kenobi, R2 doesn't either.
-Kenobi hasn't heard the name "Obi-wan" in a long time.
-Kenobi hasn't gone by the name of "Obi-wan" since before Luke was born
-Kenobi doesn't remember ever owning a droid
-Luke was told by Owen that Anakin was a navigator on a spice freighter, and that he didn't fight in any wars
-Owen felt Anakin should have "stayed here and not gotten involved"
-Kenobi and Anakin were both Jedi Knights who fought in the Clone Wars
-Kenobi refers to Anakin as the "best star pilot in the galaxy", a cunning warrior, and a good friend.
-Anakin wanted Luke to have his lightsaber when he was old enough
-Anakin followed "Obi-wan on some damn-fooled idealistic crusade"
-Obi-wan believes blasters are clumsy and random, lightsabers are element weapons for a "more civilized age".
-Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice for over a thousand generations in the old republic.
-Vader helped the empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi
-Vader was seduced by the dark side of the force
-the force is an energy field created by all living things
-Years ago, "General Kenobi" served Leia's adoptive father in the Clone Wars
-The force is seen as an "ancient religion", most nobody believes in the power of the force.
-3PO knows what a Jawa is despite not knowing Tatooine
-Droids are treated as lesser beings
-star systems have local governments with different laws, i.e. "the death sentence on twelve systems"
-you can almost buy your own ship for 10,000 credits
-Leia and Tarkin have a history
-Alderaan is a peaceful planet, they have no weapons
-a trip from Alderaan to Tatooine is about 2 hours
-A Jedi can feel the force flowing through him
-Most people don't "believe there's one all-powerful force controlling everything".
-In Obi-wan's experience, there's no such thing as luck.
-Obi-wan prefers alternatives to fighting
-Patience is an importance to Obi-wan
-Alderaan is pronounced in two different ways
-Stormtroopers have a height requirement
-Leia also knows Kenobi as "Ben"
-Obi-wan was Vader's master
-Tarkin refers to Kenobi as "Obi-wan", seems to know him personally on some level
-How does Obi-wan recognize Vader with the mask and armor?
-When Anakin left Obi-wan, he was but the learner

This list was actually much longer than I thought it would be. Soon I will embark on Empire and Jedi, and subsequently will post those lists too.

Reorganizing the Trilogy

For now I've put the script on hold, and instead I'm outlining what will happen in the three films. There's a lot of changing and moving around of the plot points, and it would be easier to write if I had the whole thing planned out ahead of time.

Star Wars: Rescripted

Hello internet! Star Wars: Rescripted is a little project I started a few days ago. We all know the prequels, and they were pretty bad. People are always talking about all the flaws with them, and how they could be so much better. There are people out there with great ideas that really would have made the film better, but I don't get why anyone ever actually did that. After a long talk with a friend about the movies, I felt that I had a great idea for how the films should have been, so I started writing a script for The Phantom Menace.

There are a few reasons I'm doing this, the first is that I really didn't like the prequels (although I think Revenge of the Sith was much better than the other two) and felt that I had an even greater story to tell. A bigger reason is that I wanted to learn how to write screenplays. I don't have any stories developed well enough yet to write a screenplay of them, so I thought that modifying an already existing story would be a good start.

Another thing is the Expanded Universe. I love some of the stories of the Expanded Universe, but for the sake of storytelling the Expanded Universe doesn't exist in these rewrites.

Right now I am seven pages into The Phantom Menace, and so far I think it's turning out pretty well.
